synergy and cross media convergence essay

Chené Harris Synergy and cross media convergence Media studies In media you need to understand synergy and and cross convergence, these terms are there to determine the level of success a film can make. For example, a large conglomerate company such as Disney owns other little companies such as marvel studios. Other terms that would be very helpful to know is monopoly and Oligopoly, monopoly is a small company that has the share of a specific company. Oligopoly is when you have a group of of the conglomerates (big companies) that dominate the film e.g the Big 5 and Hollywood. Disney as a large conglomerate owned 26% of the studio market share in 2018. Disney has the power to penetrate markets and distribute most of its films; this is done through vertical and horizontal vertagration. Synergy and cross media convergence

Synergy and cross-media convergence  Media studies  Chené Harris  The most important things to know/ understand about in media/ film making is cross-media convergence and synergy, these just simply determine the level of success a film can get. For example, a large conglomerate company such as Disney are very successful they have clearly used synergy and cross-media convergence while producing their films.  Disney as part of the large conglomerates companies owned 26% of the studio market share in 2018. Disney has the power to penetrate markets and distribute most of its films – this is done through vertical and horizontal vertagration. Vertical integration, for example, is Disney purchasing fox – another production company that’s well known. Horizontal integration, for example, is that Disney is owning and running Disney land and e.c.t. These are also just good forms of advertising the market worldwide.  Disney’s large -scale synergy and cross-...

Ownership

Chené Harris  Media essay Ownership  Media ownership has always played a huge part in the overall success of a film. Media ownership is structured in the way that only the conglomerates have possession over the big Hollywood block busters such as the big 5, paramount, MGM, Columbia, Warner brothers and Disney. These specific multimillion dollar companies produce films to keep its audience entertained and gets them to own subsiders. The warner brothers largest subsideries is DC comics, Disney has matched Warner brothers with marvel comics and studios. In order to reach a new branch of media consumers, marvel did a cross over with the avengers and X-man, this was then published to create more hype for the new avengers film.  Disney is in fact the second largest conglomerate in the entire world. It’s one of the biggest companies across the world, Disney has been estimated to have a total of more than $130 billion dollars. Disney does not have vertical or horizon...

Audiences and Institutions essay

Chené Harris Media Audiences and institutions My personal experience and patterns of media consumption in many ways demonstrates and mirrors current trends in audience behaviour. Society now a days has such an enormous influence in the amount of media that is being consumed through various types of streaming platforms (in media terms).  In today’s society there are multiple platforms for the audiences to consume media - YouTube, Netflix, cinemas, DVD stores Neon, online broadcasting and television (plus many more). Where as before audiences who are watching the media were limited to very few options. The extensive as of platforms provided for the audiences is commonly known as fragmentation. Fragmentation just describes how audiences are split across a variety of different platforms where there are endless options available for them individually to watch.  While technology has been developing, different technological systems have joined together and grown ...
