Over time, we have to see how technology has developed and progressed to such a point where now audiences can consume media very easily, hassle free from the comfort of their own home, with possibly every movie/series you could ever want to watch with just a click of a button. This constant evolving of technology has caused some significant changes in the proper film making process - in all levels where it be pre -production, production, post production, distribution, marketing and promotion. An example of this would be the transition from film to digital cameras and these changes have had a significant effect on both the audiences of the films and the film industry.
Many years ago films filmed predominantly using film cameras, movies are now using digital cameras this shows that that there is a change in the actual production process. With distribution- simultaneous releases are now becoming common, as advertising and marketing allows companies to spread awareness and gain popularity more easily. Crowd funding can play a huge part in this as well because you are then able to set up funds and multiple websites for people across the world to donate towards the film. This does however lean/ connects more with the internet and Web 2.0. This will also be more suitable for people because it would be much easier to use as they have cell phones, bank accounts which usually are connected to a device, this here will just make it easier for people to donate the money online to go towards the film. Where as before they would have had to put an add in the papers or try and figure out another way to advertise crowd funding this just made every much more complicated. Audiences are now active consumers rather than passive consumers this is all thanks to Web 2.0
Pressure has risen in terms of competition with any type of film - films are now being sent worldwide including indie films, to audiences across the globe these films that may be competing against another use technology to increase the awareness of their film. An example of this would be ‘what we do in the shadows’ because they had a Facebook page which had became quite well known because of its competitions and crowd funding. This film then became a huge success.

Over time, we see how technology has developed and progressed to such a point where now audiences can consume media easily, hassle free from the comfort of their own home, with possibly every movie/series you could ever want to watch with just a click of a button. This constant evolving of technology has caused some significant changes in the film making process - in all levels where it be pre-production, production, post production, distribution, marketing and promotion. An example of this would be the transition from film to digital cameras and these changes have had a significant effect on both audiences of the films and film industry.
Many years ago films filmed predominantly using film cameras, movies are now using digital cameras this shows that there is a change in the actual production process. The Filming process never started out being this easy just because everything that has to be filmed was being filmed and recorded onto film paper which took an overall time of 10 minutes to process/record onto the paper before the magazine ran out of storage. This then took an overnight process to find out of weather or not you had recorded the correct footage needed for your film. Where as now a days the recording goes straight into the cameras memory that you can watch/re watch any footage at anytime during a specific scene. The Red1 digital camera was used quite a few times - it was cheap and did the job, wasn’t the best quality nor did it work perfectly without having those days where it would crash “but it’s just a cheap computer”. With the new 2k camera that had then gotten introduced a few years after the Red1 had got introduced; the directors could improvise with nearly almost every scene has to how the camera man is going to record that specific scene because the camera was no longer connected to the camera mans body nor the tripod or crane.
With distribution- simultaneous release (the release of a film on multiple platforms) are now becoming common, as advertising and marketing allows companies to spread awareness and gain popularity more easily. Crowd funding can play a huge part in this as well because you are then able to set up funds and multiple websites for people across the world to donate towards them, by using these websites it shows that the internet and Web 2.0 is a better and more sufficient way to fund towards a film. This can also be more suitable for people because it would be much easier to use as they have cell phones we know this because across New Zealand there are thousands of teenagers that fall under the i-generation that have their own cell phones and have bank accounts connected to their devices, this will just make it easier for people to donate the money online to go towards the film. Where as before they would have had to put an add in the papers or try figure out another way to advertise crowd funding an example of this is how “what we do in the shadows” had to put an add in the papers to get their crowd fundings across the globe. Audiences are now active consumers rather than passive consumers this is all thanks to Web 2.0.
