AS Media Homework #2
Public enemies
Media homework
Public enemies are under the drama-mystery genre, we get this sense because at the beginning of this scene we as an audience know that there's a mystery. We see this because we are unsure whom is in the the trunk of the car and we are unsure who the murderer/kidnapper is.
Throughout the rest of the scene we see that there has been a lot of different useses in camera angles such as close ups while the kidnapper is driving, there has been use of wide-shots while we as an audience is getting introduced to the scene, and theres been use of tracking shots. These shots are used during this scene to show us as an audience where they may be and who may be around them during that scene.
As we get deeper into the scene we start to notice the digetic sounds that have been placed in the scene to give off more of a realistic impression during the scene, we notice this because of the leaves that start to rustle in the wind after the kidnapper had pulled the girls body out if the trunk and killed her.
The seven core media representations of society represented in this clip are age, ethnicity, social class and gender. We understand which characters are who at the beginning in the scene as we get introduced to the middle aged Male whom we get the impression that he is of European descendants. We then get introduced to the parents whom we get the impression of being English by the way they speak and how the cops have been dressed up. Both the parents are also in their middle ages and have a higher class to what the kidnapper has. The mother of the young lady Sandy looks almost as if she is trying to out on a brave face to the public, whereas the father of Sandy is completely heart broken and cant handle the fact that his daughter has just been killed. We as an audience then get the sense that the mother has a tougher side to her than what the father has.
The beginning if the scene has been set outside maybe in a forest or an abandoned place out in the bushes, this setting creates the scene to have more of a mysterious and dramatic look and feel to it. This then gets the audience more entertained and keeps them guessing to what may happen next. The outside setting hooks the audience in because the outdoors is an open place where anything can happen... this also creates some suspense through as the scene progresses.
The lighting that has been used is quite dark and mysterious looking, we see this as the kidnapper pulls up to the forest where there is hardly any artificial lighting coming through. As the camera moves to a birds eye view facing upwards we see that there is only a glimpse of the sun peeping through the trees, we as an audience can also see that the weather is overcast causing there to be hardly any light coming through the clouds.
The dialogue that's been used through this scene was used very well, us as the audience really felt their emotion and how scared, sad and lonely they must have felt throughout that scene. The young lady Sandy that had gotten kidnapped and murdered came across quite lonely and frightened as she was in the trunk of the car not knowing where she was going and what would of happened to her. The middle aged male that had kidnapped Sandy came across quite careless and emotionless as he murdered and kidnapped Sandy. The parents of Sandy represented quite of a upset couple considering what had happened to their daughter, the father came across a little bit more upset to what the mother came across as mentioned before.
