’EastEnders’ Essay

We are instantly aware of all the different ages coming from this extract. We understand that this because we see it in the first shot, this shot is also showing us a mid-wide. This shot clearly shows us a younger man holding a phone with three other individuals standing behind him almost as if they are listening in on the conversation he is having. The ’older’ people standing behind the young man show that they may also have some sort of pitty towards him. This here shows a stereotypical view on the older generation and how they are generally always nice and caring they are towards the younger generation. We then get introduced to the same younger generation as before yet different, this individual is a young pizza delivery guy - his hat is facing backwards giving the audience a representation that he is quite informal and almost shows that he is trying to be someone he may not actually be.
This here is another stereotypical view on teenagers who are being snobby. But this individual seems to look/ act more energetic and lively, unlike the other three older individuals who are being presented as being tired and in need of some peace and quiet. We understand this because of the following statement ”let us have a nice quiet day”. Next in the clip, we get introduced to a very young boy, who is alongside another middle-aged man. Here we start to see that the young boy is too trusting of anyone especially the wrong people, especially if there was the use of bribery. This clip portrays the younger genre of being disrespectful through the character of the pizza man, this could also show different representations of class/status in which shows the character poor backgrounds.

This clip shows the effects that have been created through mise-en-scene. The use of diabetic sounds coming from inside the bar clearly shows/ tries to hint to the audience that this bar is a place for locals to come in and enjoy some time to rest and think. The lighting that has been used also implies that the bar is homely and quite warm, whereas the outside the colours represent that outside as more cold.

This entire clip has been set in Britain England- we understand this because of their accents and has been set in/ and around a bar.  This is typical for the British showing us that they love and enjoy visiting the local bar for drinks with friends and family. Us as the audience know/ understand that it is a bar because of all the alcoholic drinks around the room which usually symbolises a bar or a club but in this case a bar

As for the clothing and costumes, the characters inside the bar are wearing normal everyday clothes. The pizza delivery guy is dressed in his uniform advertising the job he works for and what company/ products they make (in this case pizza) as the scene progresses we get introduced to a questionable character who has some sort of a large wound on his left side of his head - he's also dressed in black which tends to symbolise fear, darkness and danger. Followed on by this scene we see the young kid with a stolen shooter this shows us that the kid had stolen on behalf of that dodgy character, we understand this because of the closing sentence ”goodluck.... You're gonna need it”

Following the conversation the three older individuals in the bar, they have used a mid-shot to highlight the young gentleman forcing himself through the bar doors carrying pizzas. His character portrays to be energetic and on his own buzz. His happiness and excitement got very much highlighted with the mid-shot while he was walking into the building and the close-ups as he has a conversation with the individuals behind the counter.
The young man's entering is accompanied by the sounds of the door while being opened and being shut (all these sounds are diegetic sounds supporting the scene.
